Lasagna is a classic Italian dish that consists of layers of pasta, meat or vegetables, and cheese, all baked together in a casserole dish. The ingredients for this recipe include:
1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup diced onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
2 tablespoons dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 (10-ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
12 lasagna noodles
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is browned and the onion is tender. Drain any excess fat.
Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper to the skillet and stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let cook for 10 minutes.
In a medium bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, egg, parmesan cheese, and spinach.
Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Arrange 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread a layer of the cheese mixture over the noodles and top with another layer of meat sauce. Repeat the layering process until all of the ingredients are used up, ending with a layer of meat sauce on top.
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and sprinkle the mozzarella cheese over the top. Bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the lasagna is heated through.
Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
